Trier: UNESCO Day / Bread & Circuses

Celebrate the UNESCO World Heritage Day in Trier. There is much to discover!
31 August – 2 September and 8 September 2012
For the Bread & Circuses festival, the round stage in Trier‘s spectacular amphitheatre is transformed into a scene of dramatic combat. This presentation of the life led by Roman gladiators is the only one of its kind in the world. In an academically researched mixture of entertainment and athleticism, artists, acrobats and gladiators demonstrate our latest understanding of Roman combat to an arena of spectators. This year‘s event will include a re-enactment of ‚Hercules and the Queen of the Amazons‘.
Koblenz: Aerial cable car ride

From 16th of March 2012
The breathtaking ride with the aerial cable car over the Rhine up to “Ehrenbreitstein”
Fortress is one of the highlights of any visit to Koblenz in 2012 and 2013. Measuring
almost 850 meters and carrying 7,600 guests per hour, the cable car at Koblenz is one of the largest of its type in Europe outside the Alps. It was built for the National Garden Show in 2011. The 18 panoramic cars guarantee a spectacular view of the world heritage site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
Speyer: Kaisertafel food festival

10 – 12 August 2012
Fine wines, fantastic food and warm hospitality are the key elements of this festival as
Speyer‘s restaurateurs present food fit for an emperor on a table that stretches from
the cathedral to the Old Gate.
Mainz: Wine Market

23 – 26 August and 30 August – 2 September 2012
Every year on the last weekend in August and the first weekend in September, Mainz’s Rosengarten and Stadtpark are the joint venues for the city‘s wine market. White wines and rosés from the previous year are offered along with a selection of reds and wines from earlier vintages. It’s a great chance to meet hundreds of vintners and thousands of other wine lovers, discover new wines and simply have fun on a fine summer‘s day.
Worms: Backfisch Fair

25 August – 2 September 2012
Largest wine festival and fun fair along the Rhine with a diverse entertainment programme, festive parade and fireworks. Both modern and traditional fairground rides, the waft of candy-floss and sizzling sausage, as well as the fine wines of the local wine-growers – combine to create a captivating atmosphere, attracting guests and visitors from miles around.
